For my fellow Disney fans, this fruity, refreshing Pineapple Dole Whip recipe is for you. We make it with a base of frozen pineapple, coconut milk, and natural sweetener for a treat that's better for you than most - and much healthier than what you'll find in the parks - without sacrificing flavor or creamy texture!

Disney days can be really hot, especially here in Florida. But hot or not, one of my personal favorite treats is a Pineapple Dole Whip. And I'm not alone; this Aloha Isle classic has a cult-like following!

Some days you'll see the line to buy one snaking around Adventureland. And if you search the hashtag "dolewhip" on Instagram, you'll see how many items come up!

But did you know that this fruity treat is actually super easy to make at home? And if you start with frozen pineapple, all the work is done for you. All that's left is to blend it up and dive in.

    What is Dole Whip?

If you're not familiar with it, Pineapple Dole Whip is a pineapple-flavored soft-serve frozen dessert similar to ice cream served at certain areas of Disney. And yes, it really does taste like sunshine, lol.

The Best Easy Pineapple Dole Whip Recipe

Ingredients in Healthy Homemade Pineapple Dole Whip

In this section, I explain the ingredients and give substitution ideas. For the full recipe (including ingredient amounts), see the recipe card below.

    dole whip copycat ingredients
    • Coconut milk - use canned unsweetened full-fat coconut milk for the best rich flavor and creamy texture
    • Honey - or maple syrup for a vegan Pineapple Dole Whip
    • Vanilla - for flavor and aroma
    • Salt - to enhance the flavor of everything else
    • Frozen pineapple chunks - look for 1 (16-ounce) bag in the frozen fruit aisle at your grocery store

How to Make Pineapple Dole Whip at Home

how to make pineapple dole whip
    1. Add the coconut milk, honey, vanilla, and salt to a blender and pulse a couple times to combine.
    2. Add the frozen pineapples chunks to the blender.
    3. Process until smooth and creamy, tamping down as necessary. Be careful not to over-process or the mixture will turn into a smoothie consistency instead of soft-serve consistency.
    4. Once blended, transfer the mixture to a gallon-sized plastic bag or a pastry piping bag (fitted with a large tip) and freeze 15 minutes.

If using a plastic bag, cut off one corner of the bag. Squeeze the dole whip into 2 glasses. Serve immediately.

Tips for the Best Dole Whip

    • Don't skimp out and use low-fat or lite coconut milk! We want the richness of full-fat coconut milk here.
    • Be careful not to over-process the mixture in the blender, or you'll end up with a pineapple smoothie!
    • Make sure to transfer the mixture to a large zip-top plastic bag for 2 reasons: 1) it lets you pipe out your pineapple soft serve so it looks really pretty, and 2) you can easily pop it in the freezer to stiffen up a bit.

    Pineapple Dole Whip FAQs

What is Pineapple Dole Whip Made Of?

According to Dole Soft Serve (the makers of Dole Whip), Pineapple Soft Serve contains:

Sugar, Dextrose, Stabilizers (Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Locust Bean Gum, Guar Gum, Karaya Gum, Pectin, Cellulose Gum, Xanthan Gum), Coconut Oil, Contains 2% Or Less Of Each Of The Following: Maltodextrin, Citric Acid, Natural & Artificial Flavor, Modified Food Starch, Malic Acid, Beta Carotene (Color), Mono & Diglycerides, Silicon Dioxide (Anticaking).

    Dole Soft Serve

According to Dole Soft Serve Brand Standards, "DOLE Whip®", also referred to as Dole Soft Serve, is trademarked in connection with Disney.

Is All Dole Whip Made with Pineapple?

Pineapple is the OG, but these days there's so much more!

    According to Disney Parks Blog:

The Dole Whip original (and still most popular!) is pineapple. But we also offer lime, mango, orange, raspberry,  strawberry, and seasonal flavors throughout the year at various locations in a cup, cone, in the form of a refreshing drink, and other unique serving vessels!

Where Do You Get Pineapple Dole Whip?

In Magic Kingdom at Disney World in Florida, you can find Dole Whip at Aloha Isle Refreshments and Sunshine Tree Terrace in Adventureland. You can also get Dole Whip at the Pineapple Lanai at the Polynesian Village Resort!

At Disneyland in California, Dole Whip is available at Tiki Juice Bar in Adventureland.

Is Dole Whip Healthier Than Ice Cream?

First let me say, "healthy" is a relative word. What one person considers healthy, another may not. And something that isn't unhealthy for someone, may really hurt someone else!

But back to the question at hand.

According to Dole Soft Serve Brand Standards, Dole Soft Serve is to be referred to as "better for you" but specifically not called "healthy". This makes sense, as this frozen treat is lower in fat and calories than some desserts, but is still quite high in sugar. (Additionally, you can read more about this and check out the Dole Whip ingredient list on Disney Fandom.)

That right there is why you should make this homemade version of the iconic classic!

Our Disney Copycat Pineapple Dole Whip recipe is much healthier and made with no ice cream. We use coconut milk for healthy fat, a drizzle of honey or maple syrup to sweeten, and a base of real pineapple.

And the nice thing about making it at home is that you can customize it to suit your needs. If you need to reduce the sugar, omit the honey or maple, or use a keto-friendly sweetener (such as allulose) instead.
